A girls' football team based in Headingley, Leeds

Match report: Weetwood Blaze v Clifford Juniors AFC

Clifford's club house, where the tea happens

One of our favourite things is when you turn up to a match and there’s a club house that sells tea. So well done Clifford — it was pretty chilly and you make a great cuppa.

The other thing we love is when the Blaze win, and this match was a corker. It looked like a challenging match. with half of our team playing up a year from the U10s against a bigger, stronger, and more physical Clifford, but the girls more than held their own and came away with a 4-2 win.

The first goal was an excellent piece of teamwork, with an incredible cross that Heidi put away. Then Emily wound her way around three defenders before making an unstoppable advance on goal. Then Emmy hit an outstanding volley into the top corner, and finally Bea took advantage of the keeper leaving her line to lob in the last goal.

The drive out to Clifford from North Leeds was about thirty minutes, and the weather wasn’t great — but a satisfying win and a great cup of tea made it all worthwhile.
