The sun followed Blaze to Ilkley FC this morning, where our magnificent seven arrived eager and ready to make their mark.
Despite facing an older and more experienced Ilkley side in this U11s fixture — four of our players were stepping up from the U10s squad — they rose to the challenge brilliantly.
After a tough first quarter in which Ilkley took charge, the Blaze showed some real grit and came back revitalised in the second half after a great talk from coach Glenda.
Our dynamic defensive duo, Caitlin and Rose, were a real force in the final two quarters. In midfield, Emmy, Maggie, and Lolita were strong, creative, and pretty much unstoppable. Special shout-out to Magnet Maggie, who was named Player of the Match — wherever the ball was, Maggie was there, either breaking up play or creating magic going forward.
Eloise showed fantastic versatility, playing in defence, on the wing, and in goal—her energy and adaptability were a real inspiration to everyone watching.
When the chances did finally come, Emily finished with style and composure and claimed two goals. We were unlucky not to add at least two more goals to the tally, with several great chances.
We finished a tough match 5-2 down at full-time, but the girls were in good spirits — and everyone had enjoyed the sunshine, which made a nice change from huddling under umbrellas!
